Wellcome to Amager Icehockey Club nicknamed Ama'r Jets!
Amager Icehockey Club is situated on the island Amager very close to the Copenhagen International Airport, thereby the nickname Ama'r Jets, which also is the name in which the teams of the club are participating in the national championships. The 1. team of Ama'r Jets is playing in the national 1. division, which is a tournament under the Danish Icehockey Union second to the premier league of Denmark named AL Bank League.
The ambitions for the club is to participate in the premier league in season 2009-2010, that begins next august 2009. To reach that goal, this year Ama'r Jets is competing in all danish 1. divisions of youth hockey, developing new talents for the 1. team.
There is a long history of hockey on the island of Ama'r, but only in the season 1971-1972 Amager was represented in the premier league under the former name of the club; Tårnby. The effort that season lead to only one victory, and the club resigned premier league play the following year.
Tårnby later became TårnFalkene as Tårnby merged into one club in a joint effort with 3-Falke of Frederiksberg/Copenhagen. This correlation lasted only one year, and the following year, Kastrup Icehockey was founded. Kastrup Icehockey never really hit big, all youth teams were loosing in enormous defeats. Not until the late 90s when the club was renamed Amager Icehockey Club by more dedicated people in the board, the club regained common respect, starting to educate better skaters.
